Counselling

Counselling provides a safe, supportive, and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgement. Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, whether you are facing anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, grief, low self-esteem, or major life changes. My role is to listen with empathy, help you make sense of your experiences, and support you in finding your own way forward.

I believe that every person has the capacity for growth and positive change when they feel heard, understood, and accepted. Working collaboratively, I tailor each session to your individual needs, recognising that no two people or situations are the same. My approach is compassionate, respectful, and centred on building a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel comfortable to be yourself.

Whether you are seeking support during a difficult time, looking to develop a greater self-awareness, or wanting to improve your emotional wellbeing, counselling can help you gain clarity, resilience, and confidence. Together, we can explore the challenges you are facing, identify your strengths, and work towards meaningful and lasting change at a pace that feels right for you.

The Sessions

My goal is to provide a safe, welcoming, and non-judgemental space where you feel comfortable to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences openly. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is at the heart of effective counselling, and I am committed to working alongside you with empathy, respect, and compassion throughout your journey.

Together, we will identify the goals that are most important to you and work at a pace that feels comfortable. Whether you are seeking support with anxiety, stress, depression, grief, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, or navigating life changes, our sessions will be tailored to meet your individual needs. Rather than offering advice or solutions, I aim to help you develop greater self-awareness, gain insight into your experiences, and build on your own strengths and resilience. My role is to support and empower you as you discover new perspectives, develop healthier coping strategies, and make choices that align with your values and aspirations.

Ultimately, my goal is to help you feel heard, understood, and supported, enabling you to build confidence, improve your emotional wellbeing, and create meaningful, lasting change that enhances your quality of life both now and in the future.

Finally, Results.

The outcomes of counselling are unique to each individual, as everyone begins their journey with different experiences, challenges, and goals. Rather than measuring success by quick solutions, I believe meaningful change develops through self-awareness, understanding, and consistent personal growth over time.

As we work together, you may begin to notice changes in how you think, feel, and respond to life’s challenges. You may develop greater confidence, improve your emotional resilience, strengthen your relationships, or gain a deeper understanding of yourself and the patterns that have shaped your experiences. Many people also find they become more accepting of themselves, better equipped to manage difficult emotions, and more confident in making decisions that reflect their values.

Progress is not always linear, and there may be times when the work feels challenging. These moments can often be an important part of the therapeutic process, leading to valuable insight and lasting change. Throughout our work together, we will regularly reflect on your progress, celebrate the achievements you have made, and adjust our focus as your needs evolve.

In conclusion, the goal is for you to leave counselling with greater self-awareness, practical coping strategies, and the confidence to continue your personal growth long after our sessions have ended.

As a counsellor, I can help you by providing a safe, supportive, and confidential space where you feel heard and respected. I will listen without judgment and help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace. Together, we can identify challenges, build coping skills, and develop healthier ways to manage stress, emotions, and relationships. I can support you in understanding yourself better, setting realistic goals, and making positive choices. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to guide and empower you to find your own strengths and solutions.

I can can also help couples overcome differences by creating a safe and neutral space where both partners feel heard and respected. I encourage open and honest communication, helping each person express their thoughts and emotions clearly without blame. I support couples in understanding each other’s perspectives, values, and needs, even when they disagree. Together, we work on building empathy, improving listening skills, and developing healthy conflict-resolution strategies. I also help couples identify patterns that cause misunderstandings and guide them toward practical solutions, compromise, and mutual respect, strengthening their emotional connection and promoting a more balanced, supportive relationship.

I am someone who is continually driven by curiosity, creativity, and a desire to grow both personally and professionally. I value learning in all its forms and enjoy exploring new ideas, skills, and opportunities that push me to expand my understanding of the world around me. Whether I’m working independently or collaborating with others, I bring dedication, focus, and a willingness to dive deeply into whatever challenges come my way. I take pride in being adaptable and open-minded—qualities that help me navigate change with confidence and approach new experiences with a positive outlook.

Over time, I’ve come to appreciate the balance between being thoughtful and being bold—taking time to plan while also having the confidence to take action. Overall, I see myself as a motivated, forward-thinking individual who is always striving to grow, contribute, and create something worthwhile. As I continue on my journey, I remain open to new possibilities and excited for what the future holds.

What are the first steps?

The first step is to contact me via email or phone. I will then phone you back at a convenient time to see what you are looking for and if I can help. This call should take no more than ten minutes. If we agree then we can schedule an initial session which will help me understand where you are and what you hope therapy will help you with.
I understand that it is difficult to go to therapy – particularly for the first time – so this session is really a gentle introduction with no obligation to have any more sessions.
This initial session will last 50 minutes and there is a fee which is payable in advance.

Do you keep notes?

I make brief, handwritten notes that do not identify you. These are kept securely and are destroyed when therapy finishes.

Where will sessions be held?

The sessions are held in a consulting room at my house.

How long does therapy take?

This is very much up to you. Some people need only a few sessions, while others choose to work for longer. It’s often hard to know at the start how long therapy will take, so we review the work regularly to make sure it’s meeting your needs.

What is BACP?

The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) – www.bacp.co.uk – is the professional association for members of the counselling professions in the UK. It has 48,000 members of which I am one. I work to the high standards of their Ethical Framework  which is a requirement of membership and offers clear guidance on how counsellors should operate. They also have a clear complaints procedure.
